Prizm® Viewer allows you to share information about images using annotations. To support web-based image annotations, you need to deploy the Prizm Annotation Server for the website containing the images to annotate. Prizm Annotation Server facilitates retrieving and storing annotations for the web based images. See the Accusoft website for information on downloading and installing Prizm Annotation Server.

Prizm Viewer will continue to work with annotations that have been created with prior versions of Prizm Viewer (legacy annotations). If you are using an annotation server that supported prior versions of Prizm Viewer, you are working with legacy annotations. If you have legacy annotations, you will be restricted to only those annotation types that the prior versions of Prizm Viewer supported. Highlight annotations created in Prizm Viewer 7 or earlier are converted to yellow, translucent, borderless rectangle types in Prizm Viewer 8 (and later). For a list of annotation types, and those supported in prior versions of Prizm Viewer, refer to the Supported Types of Annotations topic.

Before you can take advantage of the additional features (including additional annotation types), you must upgrade your annotation data from its existing form into the new XML-based format that Prizm Viewer (v9 or later) uses and upgrade your Prizm Annotation server (if you are using web-based annotations).

The Accusoft Prizm Viewer Annotations Schema is included in this help file. Accusoft has provided a utility for upgrading your file-based annotations. If you have annotations stored using another store (i.e., SQL data), you can create a process for converting your annotation data based on the source code included with this utility. For more information about the utility, contact Customer Support.
