This section provides information about the following marks:
Arrow
The Arrow mark enables the end user to create an arrow over an image or document. It allows users to point to areas of a document that may be of interest to its reader.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Arrow button, drag the image, and then release.
- The head of the arrow is drawn at the point of the initial click, and the tail (end) of the arrow is set at the location where the mouse button is released.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.
Filled Ellipse
The Filled Ellipse mark enables end users to cover areas of an image or document with an ellipse.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Filled Ellipse button, drag the image, and then release the mouse button.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.
Filled Polygon
The Filled Polygon mark enables the end user to cover areas of an image or document with a polygon.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Filled Polygon button, then click the point where the polygon starts.
- Drag the mouse to the location of a vertex and click.
- Repeat step 2 to add the desired number of vertices to the polygon, clicking to add each vertex.
- Double-click to complete the polygon.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.
Filled Rectangle
The Filled Rectangle mark enables end users to cover areas of an image or document with a rectangle.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Filled Rectangle button and drag the resulting rectangle over the items to be covered.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.
Highlighter
The Highlighter mark enables end users to highlight areas of their annotated image or document.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Highlighter button and then drag the resulting rectangle over the items to highlight.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.
Hollow Ellipse
The Hollow Ellipse mark enables the end user to create a hollow ellipse to surround important areas.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
Click the Hollow Ellipse button, drag the image, and then release the mouse button.
Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.
Description |
A hollow ellipse whose boundaries are defined by a rectangle. Two points define the rectangle, an upper left point and a bottom right point. |

Hollow Polygon
The Hollow Polygon mark enables the end user to surround areas of an image or document with a polygon.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the HollowPolygon button, and then click at the point where the polygon starts.
- Drag and click to create each vertex you want to add.
- Double-click to complete the polygon.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.
Hollow Rectangle
The Hollow Rectangle mark enables users to surround areas of an image or document with a hollow rectangle.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Hollow Rectangle button and drag the resulting rectangle over the items to be surrounded.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.
Image Embedded
The Image Embedded mark enables the end user to embed a bitmap image in a document or image.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Image Embedded button and drag the image to the desired location.
- Once the bitmap is in place on the annotation window, it can be re-sized using standard resize handles.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.

Image Embedded marks are intended for use with bitmaps that use no more than the standard 20 Windows colors. Therefore, 1-bit and 4-bit bitmaps are allowed. If you try to display an 8-bit bitmap in the mark, it is displayed using only the standard 20 colors. |
Image Reference
The Image Reference mark enables the end user to include an image by reference in a document or image.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Image Reference button and drag the mark to the desired location.
- To insert an image, right-click the mark to activate the popup Edit menu and choose Properties. Select the image to reference.
Pin Up Text
The Pin Up Text mark enables the user to create a mark that appears to be tacked onto the image with a push pin.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Pin Up Text button and then drag the resulting rectangle over the area to be annotated.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.

This mark can have an optional label. The label indicates which data can be obtained by clicking on the pin in while in Run mode. You can add code to the MouseNotify Event to display additional data when the push pin is clicked. |
Redaction
The Redaction mark enables end users to hide or black out areas of their annotated image or document.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Redaction button and then drag the resulting rectangle over the items to cover.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.
Text from File
The Text from File mark enables the end user to add descriptive text to an annotated image or document. The text can be created in various fonts, sizes, colors, and even angles of presentation. The text appears to lay over the original image or document.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Text from File button and then drag the rectangle over the area to be annotated. This rectangle helps to position Text annotations. Text annotations are modified when the application is in Edit mode.
- To modify the text, double-click the mark. The cursor appears at the beginning of the text, and allows editing.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.
- Choose Fontoption allows users to select the color of the text fonts.
- Adjust Angle option enables users to rotate the text mark with a dialog box. The square at the lower left corner of the Adjust Angle dialog box shows the appearance of the text mark with the selected text display angle.
- Set Background Color option is identical to the one available while creating the Attach-a-Note mark.
- Set Background Mode option enables end users to change the visibility level of the region within the Text mark. When this option is selected, a dialog box appears.
- If Transparent is selected, the interior of the text mark is not visible; only the text is visible.
- If Opaque is selected, end users are not able to see through the interior of the text mark.
- If Tinted is selected, the text mark resembles tinted glass. End users are able to see through the mark.

If end users create a text mark without any text with a Transparent background, the resulting mark will exist, but will not be visible. |
Text Note
The Text Note mark enables your end users to add notes to their annotated image or document.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Text Note button and then drag the resulting rectangle over the area to be annotated.
- To modify the text, double-click the note. The cursor appears at the beginning of the text to allow editing.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu. This enables users to change the font or the background colors of the note.
- The Choose Font option allows users to change text properties.
- The Set Background Color option allows users to change the color of the note.
Text Stamp
The Text Stamp mark allows the end user to annotate documents and images with text.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Text Stamp button and then click where you want to place the mark.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu, which allows you to enter the text of the stamp.
Typed Text
The Typed Text mark enables the end user to add descriptive text to their annotated image or document. The text can be created in various fonts, sizes, colors. The text appears over the original image or document.
Edit Mode:
To create this mark, end users:
- Click the Typed Text button and then drag the resulting rectangle over the area to be annotated. This rectangle helps to position the Text annotations. Text annotations are easily modified when the application is in the Edit mode.
- To modify the mark, double-click the text mark. The cursor appears at the beginning of the text, and transforms to allow editing.
- Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.
