The ImageGear User Guide provides information about the following:
- Introduction: Provides information about ImageGear features, improvements, ImageGear components structure, plus information about Accusoft's Product Support Services.
- Installing, Licensing, and Distributing ImageGear: Provides information about how to install ImageGear. It also describes the structure of installed ImageGear files and the ImageGear Licensing process.
- Getting Started: Provides information about how to incorporate ImageGear's imaging capabilities into your own applications by using the sample source imaging programs provided with your toolkit.
- Using ImageGear: Provides information about how to call an ImageGear function, including setting up the variables and structures passed as arguments, and details which functions to use to perform the variety of imaging tasks. It also explains how to work with some ImageGear component API.
- File Format Reference: Provides detailed information on each of the file formats supported by ImageGear (see the section ImageGear Supported Formats), its control parameters, supported features and compressions, plus "at-a-glance" tables that describe the features supported by each format and provide guidelines on which formats may be most suitable when speed, storage space, or similar considerations are important.
In addition, the User Guide provides the following supplemental information in the Appendices/General Reference section:
- Understanding Bitmap Images: Provides information about Device-Independent Bitmaps (DIBs), the memory structures that are at the heart of ImageGear's architecture. The majority of ImageGear functions operate either directly or indirectly upon DIBs. Device-Dependent Bitmaps (DDBs) are also discussed, as is the meaning of Pixels (the building blocks of bitmaps), and all color and grayscale representations supported by ImageGear.
- Function Error Return Codes: Provides lists of error codes returned by ImageGear functions. These error codes are classified in different groups and numbered in alphabetical and numerical orders.
- Non-Image Data Storage: Provides detailed info about TIFF, JPEG, EXIF-TIFF, EXIF-JPEG, IPTC, PNG and GIF formats non-image data storage.
- TWAIN Scanning Capabilities: Provides descriptions of the most often used TWAIN scanning capabilities.
- Glossary: Defines imaging terminology.
- Software License Agreement: Provides Accusoft's Software License Agreement.
