ART 3.0/ART 2.0 Marks

This section provides information about the following marks:

Audio

The Audio mark enables end users to hear sounds when annotating an image or document. It is useful for drawing attention to a particular area of a text or image file. This mark plays a waveform audio file (.WAV).

Edit Mode:

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Audio button.
  2. Drag the mark to its destination.
  3. To display the dialog box, double-click the mark. This allows the user to specify the name of the .WAV file that plays during Run mode.

Run Mode:

When the application is in the Run mode, the cursor changes to a pointing hand when it passes over the loud-speaker bitmap. As the mark is activated (makes a sound), lines representing sound waves appear and disappear from the end of the loud-speaker.

Button

The Button mark places a programmable button on an image. For example, a button can be programmed to zoom into part of an image.

Edit Mode:

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Button button.
  2. Drag the resulting mark to its destination.
  3. The button can be resized by dragging the resize handles.
  4. You can set your application to respond to a right-mouse click by displaying the properties box and selecting the appropriate property. Your user can set several attributes for a button, including font, foreground color, background color, and text.

Run Mode:

When the application is in Run mode, the cursor changes to a pointing hand when it passes over the Button bitmap.

Curve

The Curve mark enables the end user to use spline curve drawings. The curve is specified by an array of points and a tension parameter that affects the degree of the curve's bend. The curve passes smoothly through each point in a given set of points. With this mark, end users can create spline curves with different colors, opacities, widths, and styles (solid, dash, dot, etc).

Edit Mode: In Edit Mode, end users can create, select, move, resize, delete, and change attributes of the mark.

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Curve button.
  2. Click where you want the curve to start.
  3. Drag to the location of a vertex and click.
  4. Drag and click to create each additional vertex.
  5. Double-click the location where the curve ends.

To select this mark, end users:

  1. Place mouse cursor over any part of the curve.
  2. Click to select the curve.

To resize this mark, end users:

  1. Select the curve.
  2. Hover over a control point and click.
  3. Drag the point to another location.

To move this mark, end users:

  1. Select the curve.
  2. Hover over any part of the curve and click.
  3. Drag the curve to another location.

To change the Curve mark's attributes, end users:

  1. Select the curve.
  2. Right-click the mark to display the context menu.
  3. Choose Properties from the context menu to open the dialog.
  4. Change the attributes of the Curve and close the dialog.

Ellipse

The Ellipse mark enables end users to cover areas of an image or document with an ellipse. The Ellipse can be with or without a border and fill color. It can have a set opacity level.

Edit Mode:

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Ellipse button.
  2. Drag the resulting ellipse over the items to be covered.
  3. Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.

Encryption

The Encryption mark enables your users to scramble all or part of the image.

Edit Mode:

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Encryption button.
  2. Drag the resulting rectangle over the area to be scrambled.
Encrypted marks cannot overlap.

Freehand Polyline

The Freehand Polyline mark enables the end user to use freehand drawing for annotation. With this mark, end users create drawings as though they are using a pen and paper.

Edit Mode:

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Freehand Polyline button.
  2. Drag the image, and then release the mouse button.
  3. Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.

Hot Spot

The Hot Spot mark enables the end user to define an invisible region in a document or image that can be used to hold hidden messages.

Edit Mode:

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Hot Spot button.
  2. Drag the image to the desired location, and then releasing the mouse button.
  3. When the mouse button is released, the resulting rectangle becomes the hot spot region, which remains visible while the application is in edit mode.
  4. Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.

Run Mode:

When a user passes the cursor over this region, the cursor changes, indicating that there is something special about the contents within the invisible region. If the user clicks within the region, your application sends a message detailing the information about the contents of the region.

The Hot Spot region is visible only when the application is in Edit mode.

Image

The Image mark enables the end user to embed or file reference a bitmap or a vector image in a document or image.

Edit Mode:

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Image button.
  2. Drag the image to the desired location.
  3. Once the mouse button is released, the image becomes embedded.
  4. Once the bitmap or vector image is in place on the annotation window, it can be re-sized using the mouse.
  5. Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.

Run Mode:

In Run mode, end users interact with a vector Image mark by clicking the mark and using the popup 3D toolbar. End users can rotate, scale, and move 3D data, as well as change lights and views settings.

Line

The Line mark enables the end user to create straight lines on an image or document.

Edit Mode:

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Line button.
  2. Click at the point where the line should begin.
  3. Drag the line to the point at which the line should end.
  4. Release the mouse button to complete the line.
  5. Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.

Point

The Point mark enables the end users to create point with attributes width, color, and opacity.

The Point annotation mark is always displayed as a circle with a diameter (in image coordinates) equal to the mark's Width. It is also rasterized as a circle with the same diameter; however it might look squeezed on display after rasterization if the image's horizontal and vertical resolution values are different.

Edit Mode:

In Edit Mode, end users can create, select, move, delete, and change attributes of the mark.

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Point button.
  2. Click where you want to create the point.

To select this mark, end users:

  1. Click to select the point.

To move this mark, end users:

  1. Select the point.
  2. Drag the mark to another location.

To change the Point mark's attributes, end users:

  1. Select the Point mark.
  2. Right-click the mark to display the context menu.
  3. Choose Properties from the context menu to open the dialog.
  4. Change attributes of the Point and close the dialog.

Polygon

The Polygon mark enables the end user to cover areas of an image or document with a polygon.

Edit Mode:

To create a Polygon mark, end users:

  1. Click the Polygon button.
  2. Click at the point where the polygon starts.
  3. Drag to the location of a vertex and click.
  4. Repeat step 3 to add the desired number of vertices to the polygon, clicking to add a vertex.
  5. Double-click to complete the polygon.
  6. Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.

Polyline

The Polyline mark enables the end user to create several connected straight lines by dragging and clicking.

Edit Mode:

To create a Polyline mark, end users:

  1. Click the Polyline button.
  2. Click at the point where the polyline starts.
  3. Drag to the location of a vertex and click.
  4. Drag and click to create each additional vertex.
  5. Double-click to complete the polyline.
  6. Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.

Protractor

The Protractor mark enables the end user to create an angle that displays the arc and the angle measurement.

Edit Mode:

To create a measured angle, end users:

  1. Click the Protractor button.
  2. Drag the mouse to create the first line of the angle.
  3. Click to end the first line. This click creates the vertex and begins the second line.
  4. Click where you want your second line to end. The measured angle is complete.
  5. Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.

Rectangle

The Rectangle mark enables end users to cover areas of an image or document with a rectangle. The Rectangle can be with or without a border and fill color. It can have a set opacity level.

Edit Mode:

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Rectangle button.
  2. Drag the resulting rectangle over the items to be covered.
  3. Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.

Rich Text

The Rich Text mark enables end users to edit, load, and display RTF text.

Edit Mode:

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Rich Text button.
  2. Drag the resulting rectangle over the area to be annotated.
  3. The RTF Editor Tool allows users to load RTF files and edit the RTF text using the menu and toolbar buttons.

Ruler

The Ruler mark enables the end user to create a line that displays its measurement.

Edit Mode:

To create a measured line, the end users:

  1. Click the Ruler button.
  2. Click where the line should begin and drag to the end of the line.
  3. Release the mouse button to complete the line.
  4. Right-click the mark after it has been created to activate the popup Edit menu.

Text

The Text mark enables the end user to add descriptive text to their annotated image or document. The text can be created in various fonts, sizes, colors, and opacity. It can be with or without border, filled color, and pin icon. The text appears over the original image or document.

Edit Mode:

To create this mark, end users:

  1. Click the Text button.
  2. Drag the resulting rectangle over the area to be annotated. This rectangle helps to position the Text annotations.

Text annotations are easily modified when the application is in the Edit mode. To modify the mark, end users:

  1. Double-click the text mark.
  2. The cursor appears at the beginning of the text, and transforms to allow editing.
