Glossary Item Box

Barcode Xpress™ Version 8 is a powerful control which  accurately reads common industry 1D and 2D barcodes, detecting them anywhere on the page, in any orientation. It also writes most 1D barcodes and some 2D barcodes.

Barcode Xpress ships with ImagXpress which provides world class image cleanup capability for use with Barcode Xpress. Configurable speed settings are available to suit various application and budget requirements.

New Features in Version 9.0

QR Code (or Quick Response Code) is a 2D barcode format, which can now be written (as well as read) by Barcode Xpress. QR Codes are used by a number of industries that need to store and quickly read back large amounts of data. Here is an example of a QR code:

QR Codes can be created in one of four modes, namely, numeric, alphanumeric, binary, and Kanji. The modes correspond to the type of data which can be stored in the QR code. Most consumers are accustomed to seeing alphanumeric mode QR Codes storing URLs for marketing purposes. Binary mode QR Codes are also not uncommon, particularly in ticketing applications where some level of encryption is required.

Accusoft’s Barcode Xpress component sets the mode for you automatically, based on the data you wish to write out. You simply supply the data (in either binary or string form), then call the qrCode.Create() method – and you’re done!

Barcode Xpress can read the following variants of GS1 DataBar:

  • GS1 DataBar Omnidirectional
  • GS1 DataBar Stacked
  • GS1 DataBar Stacked Omnidirectional
  • GS1 DataBar Truncated
  • GS1 DataBar Limited
  • GS1 DataBar Expanded
  • GS1 DataBar Expanded Stacked

GS1 DataBar, which was originally named Reduced Space Symbology, is a barcode symbology which was designed to replace the Universal Product Code (UPC) barcode format. It has not only greater data density, but the capability in some variants for much greater data storage.

There is no need to specify which of the 7 variants noted above you wish to read; simply set the BarcodeTypes property to GS1 DataBar (syntax varies based on host language) and call Analyze().

Caution: When using trial (unpaid) licensing, the words " UNLICENSED accusoft.com " will appear in the middle of every DataMatrix and PDF417 barcode created, taking up 25 bytes of space including a space before and after. When testing the contents of generated barcodes, be aware of the extra space requirements.
