SmartZone™ performs high accuracy ICR and OCR recognition in user defined areas of interest (zones). SmartZone also supports full page OCR. You can easily integrate SmartZone with the other FormSuite components to develop a robust data extraction solution.

Character Sets

Both SmartZone ICR and OCR provide the ability to add or remove characters from character sets to improve recognition accuracy. Additionally, SmartZone OCR allows adding entirely new characters.

SmartZone ICR

SmartZone ICR supports 11 languages and 1 region, which includes Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, and combined Western European languages.

SmartZone OCR

SmartZone OCR supports 73 languages and 4 regions, which includes Afrikaans, Albanian, Azerbaijani (Cyrillic, Latin), Basque, Belarusian, Bosnian (Latin), Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Traditional, Hong Kong Traditional, Simplified), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Faroese, Finnish, French, Frisian, German, Greek, Guarani, Hani, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Kazakh (Cyrillic, Latin), Kirghiz (Cyrillic), Kirundi, Korean, Latin, Latvian, Lithuanian, Luxembourgish, Macedonian, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Quechua, Rhaeto Romanic, Romanian, Russian, Rwanda, Serbian (Cyrillic, Latin), Shona, Slovak, Slovenian, Somali, Sorbian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tajik (Cyrillic), Thai, Turkish, Turkmen (Cyrillic, Latin), Ukrainian, Uzbek (Cyrillic, Latin), Vietnamese, Wolof, Xhosa, Zulu, and combined Baltic, Cyrillic, Central European, and Western European languages.

Optimize Character Recognition & Improve Recognition Results

To optimize character recognition, you can:

• Perform segmentation
• Specify predefined character sets for recognition
• Reject characters when their recognition fails
• Specify minimum acceptable confidence values

To improve recognition results, you can:

• Configure expected recognition results by specifying:
  • A FieldType (ICR: FieldType ; OCR: FieldType) such as date, time, etc.
  • A regular expression
  • Potential contents in a DataValidationList (ICR: DataValidationListAddEntry; OCR: DataValidationListAddEntry), such as a list of possible account or customer numbers
• Select the expected language (ICR: Language; OCR: Language) being recognized
• Report multiple character results (ICR: CharacterResult; OCR: CharacterResult) and associated confidence values
• Define recognition zones (ICR: Area; OCR: Area) of interests to avoid recognizing unuseful data

Accusoft Components Shipped with SmartZone

• SmartZone is available as a bundle that includes both ICR and OCR, or you can just use either SmartZone ICR or SmartZone OCR
• SmartZone includes the following components (that is, these components are installed when you install SmartZone):
  • ImagXpress Professional for .NET Framework (for image loading, binarizing, and viewing)
  • NotateXpress for .NET Framework (for adding image annotations)

SmartZone is also available as part of FormSuite.
