The annotation format used by PV7. Annotations with the ".ANN" extension may reside in a local file or on a web server.

Annotation
Commentary or explanatory notes that are applied to an item.

Annotation Server

A software program or the computer on which that program runs that provides annotation service to client software. Prizm Viewer uses an annotation server to add persistent annotations to images over an internet/intranet.

Drag-and-Drop
The ability to move icons of files and folders on screen from one location to another using the mouse select button.

E

Embedded Annotations
Annotations that are stored in the same file as an image. These may be stored in a TIFF header (Wang/Kodak or NXP annotations).

External Annotations

Annotations that are stored in a separate file from an image. These may be .ANN, .NSP, or XML annotations.

H

Hysteresis

Represents the number of pixels the mouse can move before either a selection is considered being made, or two clicks are no longer considered a double click. Other applications may refer to this as "Mouse Sensitivity". These values are always retrieved from the OS, since the OS provides the user with ways to change these values.

M

MIME

(Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) is an open extensible Internet protocol which includes support for non-textual information exchange from applications to web browsers. It supports information such as graphics, executable files, and multi-part messages which may combine several attachments, possibly of different types of data into a single message.

Mouseover

When the mouse hovers over an object and causes an event to occur common within web browsers.

Pages
Separate files within a list file.

PDF

Portable Document Format - created by Adobe Systems, Inc. It uses the PostScrpt printer description language and is highly portable across computer platforms. PDF documents have the .pdf file extension.

Pin or Pinning

To attach the docking window to a secured location, you can 'pin' it down by selecting the push pin found in the docking window framing. To un-pin the docking window, select the push pin again and it displays horizontal.

R

Rebar
A parent bar containing one or many child bars or toolbars.

S

Scripting

A programming language supported by and specific to a particular program used to automate complex or advanced features or procedures within the program.

Session

Represented by a single instance of the ActiveX, generally represented by a single Window with an image view.

Session state

The set of all settings that are retained as a user pages through the images in a session. This state is not shared between different sessions or saved from one session to another.

Sheets
Separate images within a multi-page image file.

TIFF

Tag Image File Format - One of the most commonly used and versatile graphics formats in desktop publishing. TIFF or Tagged Image File Format is a bitmap graphics format that is ideal for high resolution printing to PostScript printers and imagesetters. TIFF images support both embedded paths and alpha channels which can be used to create transparent backgrounds for images in a page layout application.

U

User Script

A user-defined and scripted operation. Prizm Viewer includes a facility to place user script items into toolbars and menus and provides an event to indicate when they have been selected.

Viewing Window

The main Prizm Viewer window which displays the current page and/or image.
