Annotations
Such as text notes, drawings, file attachments, sounds, movies, hypertext links, etc., offer additional information or commentary about the PDF document. Annotations can be viewed or modified by an application user without modifying the underlying content (text, graphics, and images) of the PDF page.
Bookmarks
(Also known as Outline Items) enable the application end user to navigate interactively to different parts of the PDF document.
Document Metadata
Stores information about the document author, creation date, modification date, etc.
Image Objects
Represent raster images within a document. Each page may contain 0, 1, or multiple image objects.
A PDF file that is structured to enable the first page of the file to be displayed before the entire file is downloaded. Linearized PDF is desirable when the PDF will be viewed in a Web browser.
PDF Document
Portable Document Format, a file format created by Adobe® System to represent documents independently of the application software, hardware, and operating system used to create them, and independently of the output device on which they are displayed or printed. PDF documents may contain several types of information: Static appearance information describing the content, layout, and formatting of one or more pages in the document. Each page of the PDF document may contain text, vector graphics, and raster images. Interactive information describes a user's interaction with the document. Examples of interactive information are annotations, thumbnail images, and bookmarks. Higher-level information is useful for interchange of content among applications and users, for example, document metadata.PDF File
Each PDF file contains a header, which identifies the PDF version to which the file conforms (e.g., v1.6), a body containing the PDF document, and additional structural information to enable random access and update to the PDF file.PDF Image Only
A PDF document in which each page contains one image, and no text objects.PDF Image+Text
(Also known as Searchable Image PDF, Image with Hidden Text PDF, or Image Over Text PDF) - A PDF document which contains one image per page, with a corresponding invisible layer of searchable text.(Also known as Generated PDF or Electronic PDF) - A PDF document that was converted directly from an electronic source. Normal PDF may contain text objects, image objects, and any other content defined within the PDF specification.
PDF/A
PDF/A is the recognized ISO standard for long term archival of PDF documents. It is an electronic document format for long term preservation or archiving purposes. It omits the PDF features not suitable for long-term archiving, while preserving the visual appearance independent of the tools and systems used to create and store it. PDF/A documents are self-contained, i.e., all the information required for displaying the document while maintaining its visual integrity each time is embedded in the file itself. Links to external sources are not supported if the necessary information is not embedded.
Thread-safe
An application using this component can use multiple controls running in the same process, where they don't interfere with each other. The thread creating the control owns the control and is the only thread that can interact with it.Thumbnail Images
Represent the pages of the document in miniature form. These may be used by the PDF viewer application to offer the end-user a overview of the document. Thumbnail images are optional, and may be included for 0, 1, or more than one pages within the document.
XFDF
XML Forms Data Format - An Adobe®-created format for representing form data and annotations. PDF Xpress creates XFDF that complies with the published XML Schema: partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/xml/xfdf_2.0_draft.pdf. However, PDF Xpress created XFDF will only contain data for PDF Xpress supported annotations. For more information on PDF Xpress support of XFDF elements and attributes, see Frequently Asked Questions: www.accusoft.com/pdfxpressfaq.htm.XML
Extensible Markup Language - a standard for describing the structure of data. See http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/ for more information.
