ImageGear .NET TWAIN uses the TWAIN 1.x DSM installed on the local machine. ImageGear for Silverlight uses the TWAIN 2.x DSM installed on the local machine. This results in a few minor differences in behavior of the two products, which include:
- The Select Source Dialog shows the names of each installed data source, but in ImageGear .NET, version and other metadata about the sources is also shown. Functionally, this does not effect the user; the strings will just appear different.
- Different containers used for same capability. Part of the TWAIN 2 specification is that the list of allowed capability containers used to negotiate some capabilities has changed.
- WIA-TWAIN compatibility layer. There is a compatibility layer between WIA and TWAIN that allows WIA devices to be used through the TWAIN protocol. However, this compatibility layer does not support TWAIN 2 at the time of this release.
