The aspect ratio defines how many horizontal pixels are equal in size to a certain number of vertical pixels. Changing the aspect ratio of the image will change its appearance, but the degree depends on the severity of the change.

This function is particularly useful when you are viewing a fax document in which the aspect ratio was incorrectly encoded. For example, low-resolution fax images are scanned in at 200 horizontal and 100 dpi vertical.

The PCX file format does not provide aspect size information, so when the image displays, it appears squashed. By doubling the horizontal aspect, the image displays correctly.
