Prizm Content Connect
v9.0

The PCC 9.0 Release marks a significant change in the evolution of our product. We have responded to customer feedback to make the HTML5 Viewer the best on the market. Some of the changes for PCC 9.0 include:

A Brand New HTML5 Client Viewer - Based on a Responsive Web Design

With mobile support becoming increasingly critical to any modern web application, we have embraced the responsive design concept, in which display of the viewer controls are optimized for the view port. That means only one application is needed to support desktop, tablet, and phone applications.

Scrollable Viewing

The new client supports smooth scrolling pages to allow the user to read a document in a more natural way than in the previous HTML5 Viewer.

Customizable Markup

The new viewer is based on HTML templates, which can be completely customized by the developer. The HTML and CSS files are no longer obfuscated and may be edited to suit the specific needs of the application. Menus can be added, removed, or changed with just a few minutes of coding in a very easy-to-understand design.

Full Viewer Client API

For advanced development, the new Viewer is based entirely on a public API. This gives the developer complete control over the look, feel, and behavior of the viewer and allows the Viewer to extend or replace existing functionality by creating custom controls and behaviors. Developers can subscribe to numerous viewer events, which will support auditing of user interactions.

Improved Workflow

The new viewer has completely redesigned menus and navigation. It was designed to improve user workflow and reduce the number of clicks required to perform common functions.

Prizm Services

Watchdog Process

As the Prizm Services platform expands in scope and functionality, the need for a centralized control mechanism has become more important. The Watchdog process is the central system that will be used to configure and start the needed Prizm Services and monitor Services health to ensure greater system stability.

Multi-Server Mode

The need to have the your Services up and running to support your applications and user base is a key component of enterprise software. With the release of PCC v9.0 we have introduced a new Multi-Server Mode that will allow systems to communicate with one another to share the processing load. With integrated request routing between multiple Prizm Content Connect Servers you can more easily implement a redundant scalable service platform.

Microsoft Office Improvements

This product release introduces numerous improvements to the Office conversion engine including:

Enhanced Chart Visualization

Excel Pagination

Large Excel files can now be converted to PDF and SVG, and viewed in the paginated mode (similar to the printed output) for better visibility of large spreadsheets and reducing the payload to the client's browser.

PDF Improvements

This product release introduces the following major improvements to the PDF converter:

How this Affects Previous PCC Versions

HTML5 Viewer (PCC v8.4)

The existing HTML5 viewer (PCC 8.4) has been deprecated. We will continue to support the existing HTML5 viewer until PCC 10.0 to allow our customers to migrate to the new version.  We will not be adding new features to this version of the viewer. We will however continue to address critical issues until PCC 10.0. When installing the product, you will have the option to continue to install the deprecated samples, which will still work out of the box. The default location for these samples has been moved to C”\Prizm\Samples\Deprecated. New samples have been created for the PCC 9.0 viewer.

HTML5 Mobile Viewer

The HTML5 Mobile VIewer is no longer supported. The new Viewer is an evolution of the mobile viewer, with substantial performance and functionality improvements. Evaluators of this viewer should be able to move seamlessly into the new Viewer.

Flash

The Flash viewer has been deprecated. We will announce a sunset date after the release of PCC v10.0. We understand that the migration path may be longer in some instances due to legacy browser support and existing functionality and want to ensure that our customers have sufficient time to migrate to newer technologies. We will continue to address issues through PCC v10.0 but will not be adding new features. As with the deprecated HTML5 viewer, samples have been moved to  C:\Prizm\Samples\Deprecated.

PCCIS/Proxy Server

Prizm Content Connect Imaging Services (PCCIS) has been renamed to Prizm Services. Prizm Services are still supported for the new HTML5 Client, the deprecated HTML5 Client, and the Flash Viewer.

Supported Operating Systems

We have updated the supported Operating Systems for PCC 9.0. Please refer to the Systems Requirements & Supported Environments topic for more information.

Documentation

In order to clearly separate the new functionality from the deprecated viewers, documentation has been divided into two distinct sets of help files. The legacy help will be installed in <Install Path>\Prizm\Help\Deprecated\Deprecated PCC.chm. This is essentially the help file from PCC 8.4, with minimal updates. The help for current products is installed in <Install Path>\Prizm Help and contains completely updated documentation for the new viewer and updated services with numerous examples to help you get started.
