A

Alias
A specific value by which an object may be identified. For example, an "Invoice Number" field label may appear on a particular form as "Invoice #", "INV#", or any other variation. Each variation is considered to be an alias for the "Invoice Number" field.

Analyze

The process of using templates, Form Field Definitions, Form Table Definitions, Company Data, and the Vendor List to define the Form Results of the document being processed.

B

Binarize
The process of reducing a grayscale or color image to a bitonal image where every pixel is represented with either a "1" or a "0".

BoundingArea
See BoundingBox.

BoundingBox
The rectangular area encapsulating the item being bounded. Example "boundingBoxForData" is the rectangle encapsulating "data".

D

Deskew
When images are scanned by a scanner, if the image is not square on the scanning bed the resultant image will be skewed (slightly rotated and/or slanted). Deskewing is the process of correcting this skewing effect.

Document
A collection of document pages that represents a particular document such as an invoice. Each document page can come from any page of any image. In other words, the document page index is independent of the image page index.

Dot Shaded
An area of an image where "half toning" (using dots of the same size in different densities in a binary image) is used to create the appearance of gray scale tones.

F

File
Used interchangeably with image file.

File Page
Used interchangeably with image page.

Form Definition
A set of Form Field Definitions and a set of Form Table definitions used to identify what data is to be extracted from the document.

Form Field
A FormFieldLabel and FormFieldData pair.

Form Field Data
The text to be extracted from the document for a given Form Field.

Form Field Definition
Contains information that is used to locate and classify Form Fields in a document.

Form Field Label
Contains the predetermined identifying text and heuristics to be used in identifying the text to be extracted from the document for a given FormField.

Form Field Table
Information extracted from the document in a tabular format of rows and columns.

Image
A structure containing one or more image pages. See Supported File Types for a list of the specific structures supported.

Image File
A storage medium for an image. A file can be stored on a local physical disk, as an element in a database, or through any other system.

Image Page
A single page of graphical raster or vector data.

M

Multi-Page Document
A document that was derived from two or more image pages.

S

Semi-structured Forms
A class of forms which have enough similar structure to be grouped together, but enough difference that a static template cannot be used to process all of them.

T

Template
Contains the predetermined footprint of FormFields and FormTables for a known document format.

V

Validation
A process where the user has to accept the content of Form Result after verifying that the data extracted was correct.
